Multimedia Resources

Find out what expertise and resources are already available oncampus, so you don’t have to reinvent the wheel (or the internet). Some projects are best done by identifying a group within Duke, or a local freelancer, who has the skills and equipment to complete it. Other projects can be done with a combination of consultation and existing tools and services. Longer-term projects may require training. Listed below, are resources for:

Consultation

  • Duke Media Services --provides a full range of professional media production services to the Duke community.
  • Duke Creative-- a full-service creative, marketing and communications agency that works across Duke Medicine and Duke University.
  • Multimedia at OIT -- focuses on the applications and relevant infrastructure necessary for Duke users to communicate, capture and distribute using digital video and audio.
  • Center for Instructional Technology-- supports the academic mission of the university by helping instructors and students find innovative ways to use technology to achieve their educational goals.

Tools and Services

  •  Duke on iTunes U -- Duke’s venue on Apple’s iTunes site, which allows university units to present audio or video recordings in the podcast format for download or online streaming.
  • Duke YouTube Channel -- Duke’s presence on Google’s YouTube site, which allows university units to deliver online videos that can be shared and inserted into websites.
  • DukeStream-- the Office of Information Technology’s streaming media hosting service allows members of the Duke community to distribute media files via dedicated streaming servers. 
  • Duke Technical Services -- provides a wide range of technical support services including audio-visual rentals, sound reinforcement and audio-visual maintenance and support in many campus facilities.
  • DukeCapture-- the Office of Information Technology’s automated lecture and event capture system at sites across the Duke campus.
  • Duke Media Services -- provides a full range of professional media production services to the Duke community.
  • Duke Photography -- provides high-quality photographic images to a wide range of constituents, from Duke’s myriad academic programs to the athletics department, from the local, regional and national media to Duke alumni and friends.
  • Multimedia Project Studio in the Office of Information Technology -- comprises two multimedia production facilities for Duke students, faculty and staff, with high-end, integrated hardware and software that encourage imaginative creation and editing of graphics, webpages, audio and video.
  • Communicators Commons (Net ID required) -- a blog for Duke communicators with entries on media trends, job openings, new colleague profiles and more.

Training

  • Center for Documentary Studies -- teaches, engages in, and presents documentary work grounded in collaborative partnerships and extended fieldwork that uses photography, film/video, audio,and narrative writing to capture and convey contemporary memory, life and culture.
  • OIT Training -- offers both free pre-scheduled Technology Seminars and On Demand Training to support Duke Academic needs.
