Durham, NC -- About 120 Chinese students, scholars, family members and friends attended a vigil Tuesday night in front of Duke Chapel to support the victims of the Chinese earthquake last week. Sponsored by the Duke Chinese Students and Scholars Association (DCSSA), the vigil included a 5-minute moment of silence.
The official death toll is around 15,000 as of Wednesday morning, but that figure is expected to rise.
DCSSA has raised around $6,500 during the vigil, which will be sent to the Chinese Red Cross for earthquake rescue and relief efforts.
Additional donations can be made online at: www.cafanc.org/donate or by writing a check payable to the Chinese American Friendship Association (CAFA) and mailing it to P.O. Box 898, Cary, N.C., 27512
