Students Learn Town-Gown History at "Durham" Pre-Screening

Durham, NC -- The new film “Durham: A Self-Portrait” by Steven Channing will be screened as part of the university's Martin Luther King commemoration 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 21, in the Bryan Center’s Griffith Film Theater.
The event is free and open to the public. A discussion will follow with panelists including the film's director; Kerry Watson, Sr., associate chief operating officer of Duke University Hospital; and Durham real estate developer Carl Webb.
The documentary chronicles the city’s role in such aspects of American history as race relations, industrialization and entrepreneurship. One focus of it is the relationship between Duke and Durham's black community. Students previewed the film and gave their reactions (watch the video).
