A new short film “The Doll” premiered October 18 at Duke University’s Richard White auditorium. The film adapts a short story by early twentieth-century African-American writer Charles W. Chestnutt that centers around a black barber cutting the hair of his father’s killer. Duke artist-in-residence Danté James directed the film with Duke professors Josh Gibson and Anthony Kelley respectively doing cinematography and music composition. Students from one of Gibson’s courses worked as assistants on the production. Watch the video (right).
