Durham, N.C. -- It’s a time of transition for university library
staff.
The Bostock Library opens on Oct. 12, the day classes resume after fall break. Until then, all services at Perkins Library, as well as access to the building, remain where they are currently.
Some collections, primarily public documents, East Asian, reference, and current periodicals, will start moving to Bostock in mid-September. In the weeks before Bostock opens, library staff will retrieve items from these collections upon request at the Perkins circulation desk.
A café is expected to open in the von der Heyden Pavilion in early October. The Pavilion adjoins Perkins on the first floor with an entrance from the gallery space near the circulation desk.
On Oct. 12, the main entrance to the library will move to the gateway that joins Bostock to Perkins near Old Chemistry building. It will still be possible to enter the Perkins building from the quad, but the first floor will be closed beyond the gallery space. Also, effective Oct. 12, services and departments that have been located on the first floor of Perkins (including reference, circulation, and current periodicals and newspapers) will be located on the first floor of Bostock.
Other library departments moving into Bostock are the Public Documents and Maps Department, International and Area Studies, the East Asian collection and reading room, the Center for Instructional Technology, Information Technology Services, and the library’s technical services departments.
