Michael R. Gettes, who helped develop Georgetown Universityâs network and computing services, has been appointed senior technology architect and strategist in Duke Universityâs Office of Information Technology.
"Michael will stimulate discussion throughout Duke about the form our technological environment should take in the future," said Tracy Futhey, Dukeâs vice president for information technology and chief information officer. "Weâre delighted Michael is joining us. His expertise and experience will help us plan and build a robust infrastructure to support Dukeâs core missions of teaching, research and patient care."
Gettes will start work in April in the newly created position, reporting directly to Futhey. He comes to Duke from Georgetown, where he serves as principal technologist with the Office of Information Services. He previously held information technology positions at Princeton and Boston universities.
"I have known Michael Gettes for years and have the highest regard for him," said Michael Pickett, Dukeâs deputy chief information officer for information technology. "Iâm particularly enthusiastic about his past involvement with the Internet 2 project. His knowledge and experience will strengthen the Duke IT team, and his sense of humor wonât hurt either."
