To promote traffic safety and accessibility by emergency service vehicles, the Duke University Police Department says it will more closely monitor and enforce parking and traffic on campus and adjoining roads. Concern for the safety of the growing number of cyclists and pedestrians on campus also has contributed to the decision to increase enforcement, Birkhead noted in his letter.New signs have been posted throughout campus to designate parking areas more clearly and to inform drivers of the possibility of being ticketed or towed. Vehicles must display appropriate parking decals and be parked only in designated spaces. Visitor spaces also have been more clearly marked. Spaces for service vehicles, for people with mobility impairments or those otherwise marked as reserved will be enforced 24 hours a day, seven days a week.Written by Noah Bartolucci.
